From the President

On returning home from the Coaching in Leadership and Healthcare Conference, an annual event put on by The Coaching Institute and sponsored by Harvard Medical School, I am inspired by and proud of the IAC and where we are headed. This event attracts participants from all over the world and offers the opportunity to connect with thought leaders in the industries of leadership, neuroscience, healthcare, positive psychology, and coaching. Natalie Tucker Miller, general manager, also attended and we met up with VOICE editor Beth Ann Miller. You can look forward to a few upcoming articles about what we learned from David Peterson, Director of Executive Leadership and Coaching at Google, and many others. For now I’d like to share a few thoughts with you.
Members make up the core of the IAC. We are strong as an organization because of the strengths of each other and our collective dedication to coaching mastery. Members join the IAC because we aren't like all the other organizations but we are also part of a bigger, courageous conversation that is happening all over the world.

One of the things I have been excited to see is how members are using the Masteries® in other parts of their lives, as well as coaching. On a Path to Mastery call earlier this year we heard from a member who uses the Masteries® in her work caring for Alzheimer’s patients. At the conference I attended a break out session with Dr. Michael W. Yea, M.D., FACS who discussed surgical leadership beyond the operation room. I was so pleased to share with him afterwards that our members are using the Masteries® in a variety of settings with great success.

Part of what I enjoy seeing is the affirmation of how substantive the Masteries® are, as well as how effective they are in different cultures and different styles of coaching.

Here are just some of the things we're doing to create an even better member experience and provide more value for our members:

A website redesign, soon launching, that is more aligned with our progressive, possibility-expanding philosophy. The site will be easier to navigate, provide even better support and more of a sense of community for all of us.

The website is being developed using the results of a member survey and we are deep in the development phase of the site. We can’t wait for the big reveal but if you've ever done a complete website overhaul, you know this always takes longer than expected! I'll keep you posted. It will be worth the wait.

We largely operate with volunteers and have been fortunate to have members who are so dedicated to masterful coaching. We are strengthening our position as a progressive business association and one way we are doing this is by expanding our team to help with day to day operations.

We are providing even more content, in a way that our members want to receive it. You'll notice the change to this newsletter format. We are pleased to provide you with the information you need quickly and efficiently, while highlighting items you may not have been aware of.

You'll also notice a new use of the blog. We are getting back to the tried-and-true blog format. Along with this, we want to send a call out for guest posts on the blog. This is a great way to expand the knowledge of coaching, share ways in which we can use the Masteries® beyond the coaching session, as well as providing more recognition to members via the blog. Contact the VOICE editor, Beth Ann Miller at voice@certifiedcoach.org if you're interested in submitting a post, or if you have a topic you'd like to see covered.

Within hours of returning home from the conference I watched my husband snap the above picture while waiting for the super moon lunar eclipse just blocks from our home. All in all, it was a spectacular weekend and I’m reminded that great things lie on the horizon.

With gratitude,
Vicki
