How to Listen for Where the Masteries Are Present
by Natalie Tucker Miller, MCC (IAC)

Q: I’m finding it difficult knowing when to apply a Mastery at a certain time. Are there guidelines to help me know when the timing is right for a particular Mastery?

A: This question is a common one, as coaches prepare to demonstrate their use of the Masteries for certification.

However, I’m going to suggest taking an opposite approach, and it's the same approach that was used during the development of the Masteries:

Observe what is happening that creates sustainable transformation necessary for client growth and success.

Become aware of where the Masteries are present, rather than looking at how to apply a Mastery in a certain circumstance. As you listen to coaching sessions via your triads or practicums, or listen to your own coaching sessions that you’ve recorded, become a masterful observer of what is.
